Project Description: Although unbuilt, this proposed site development overlooking the Ohio River, continues the redevelopment of Cincinnati’s eastern riverfront urban corridor. We studied various options for maximizing the potential of the site with a sustainable (green) home, including studying a duplex development. Our green design strategy included a small building footprint to preserve the wooded hillside site (touch the land lightly) & flexible use of interior space so that the home sized just right. A garage space with a glass door could transform into a studio space or a place for gathering. Daylighting and views were maximized with mostly Southern orientation, allowing the incorporation of passive heating & cooling techniques. Highly durable local materials would clad a superior thermal envelope with sprayfoam insulation.
