Project Description: SMP design was shortlisted in 2018 to provide a proposal to the University of Cincinnati for a new sculpture studio for the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). Although we did not win the commission, we were commended for our creativity. Our solution created a unique identity for this off-campus facility, animated the streetscape with interesting sculptural forms and materials, and captured natural light for an energy efficient space filled with soft ambient light. We also explored passive ventilation techniques and let the building reveal its function with a facade of sculptural forms of Corten steel and glass.
